Anzac Services in Riccarton-Sockburn

The Riccarton-Sockburn area offers five services for people to mark Anzac Day, April 25, this year.

Services will be at:

6.30am – Upper Riccarton War Memorial Library – Rannerdale Veterans Hospital, Hansons Lane

9am - 20th Battallion Association, Cnr Jane Deans Close & Harakeke St

10am - University of Canterbury, Matariki Quad

10am – St Barnabas Church, Fendalton Road

12 noon – Wigram Airforce Museum, Harvard Ave 

And of course there is the Dawn Service at 6.30am in Cramner Square, and the Christchurch Citizens Service at the Transitional Cathedral at 10am.

Water Chlorination Begun in Riccarton

water chlorinationThe Christchurch City Council has begun chlorinating the Riccarton water supply.

The temporary chlorination of the Riccarton and north-west zones began on Friday, 6 April. The north-west zone stretches from Belfast through to Yaldhurst and includes parts of Riccarton and Addington and supplies 80,000 people.

The council is temporarily treating Christchurch's drinking water with chlorine while it upgrades below-ground well heads.

A chance for men to learn to cook

Mens CookeryA six-week course for men wanting to learn to cook tasty, hearty and healthy meals on a budget will be starting in Riccarton in April.

The course will be led by chef Paul Meek, and participants will cook a meal and then enjoy eating it together.

The course starts on Thursday, April 19, and runs each Thursday at Riccarton Baptist Church from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm.

A koha will be requested each session.

Join in to help tidy the neighbourhood

The Warehouse and Neighbourly are joining forces to encourage people to tidy up their neighbourhoods.

A nationwide initiative, The Great Community Clean Up (GCCU), is encouraging Kiwis to get out into their communities to give them a clean-up between April 16 and 22.
