Recycled sports gear movement grows

Two more Riccarton locations have been added to the "Give Gear Get Great" initiative, which recycles outgrown, used or unused sports equipment back to those who need it.

 Give Gear Get Great binThe cost of equipment can often be a barrier to participating in sport and recreation and the "Give Gear Get Great" initiative aims to reduce this by donating unwanted sports equipment to individuals, schools, and organisations who provide recreational opportunities.

Two new "Give Gear Get Great" wheelie bins have now been added in Riccarton for people to drop off unwanted sports goods:·

  • ·Howzat Indoor Sports 4 Matipo St

They join La Vida Life Church at 34a Hansons Lane, which has had a collection bin for several months.

If you would like to host a Give Gear Get Great bin for collection of goods, please get in touch at . Once the bin is full, the City Council collects it, makes an inventory of the items and returns it ready to go again. Or, if you know of a need for equipment within your community, let the council know and it will see what it can do to help out from equipment in stock.
